PostSubject: Help me be a better druid   Tue Dec 20, 2011 4:14 pm

I'm not sure if this is the best place for this post, I'm not sure what is a good place for this is, because this is beyond a gear choices question.

So a couple of things:
* I'm generally at the top of healing output in my raids
* I nearly always crush all healers except for the odd standout in LFR
* I'm never near any kind of ranking in World of Logs
* We never did any heroic T11, we only had a handful of heroic shannox & majordomo kills
* So with the above point, I'm always in pretty much just normal gear and I've never seen any of the cool trinkets (jaws of defeat, shard of woe, tyrande's doll, etc.)
* I'm in a 10 man guild so I pretty much am always missing 5% spell haste, but I do have dark intent. But that means I'm pretty much never at WG 9th tick.

So with all that, I feel I'm just an OK druid, playing with a lot of just OK players. I recently setup some power auras to help me keep track of life bloom stack about to drop (I'm back to raid healing in T13) and I also set one up for mana < 70% and power torrent up to help me be more aggressive with innervate. I'm pretty much always casting, if there's no one that needs a heal, I'm casting nourish on my lifebloom target. There are a bunch of fights where I find myself unable to keep range with the tank (ranged group in ping pong boss, chasing down small swirlies in the boat boss) and I put the bloom stack on myself, feels really sub optimal but hey, 10 man so I'm also usually the only source of replenishment (not to mention set piece bonus).

So what I'm really asking the community is help and advice to really take my game to the next level, and help my raid work on heroics more than we've done in the past. I've only really used ask mr. robot for gearing, maybe I need to be using tang's spreadsheet or other spreadsheets? Any advice on upping my game would really be most helpful, thanks.

Your main problem is not hitting the 2005 Haste Rating. Also your 2.8k spirit may be excessive and you should probably move some of it to Mastery. You may want to consider moving some talents from Perseverance to Nature's Bounty - you will want to use Regrowth occasionally, esp on OOC procs.

Entering your stats into http://www.reforgemaster.com/?character=Pamplona&server=Perenolde+-+US&submit=Load+Character&updateFromArmory=Yes I can see that you can reach a max of 1927 Haste Rating via reforging, which is within 4 gem swaps of hitting 2005 so it's worthwhile going for it. So I set target Haste Rating to 1925, and set my preferred settings and the result is this:

Swap 4 Brilliant gems to Reckless to hit 2005, and you should have a good balance between Mastery and Spirit now.

Also, change your meta from Ember to Burning.

Well with missing the 5% spell haste buff, is the 2005 breakpoint still worth it? My guild is in the same situation, almost never have it, and was thinking it would be more worthwhile for me to drop down to a lower haste level.

Yeah, I was about to say that, part of my problem is that I need to hit 2292 and not just 2005. Can I use your speadsheet tang to evaluate what changing to different haste levels would do to my performance?

yeah, it looks like with my current gear set, I'd need to change more gems into reckless than I have.

Sorry, I derped and didn't see the part about the missing 5% spell haste. You seem to have left your fishing hat on so I can't judge if you can viably reach the 2292 breakpoint.

You can use my spreadsheet of course, you'll have to scroll down to check the exact performance (SHPS) numbers though. I should probably make a copy of those numbers higher up the spreadsheet. You should probably look for the SHPS for Duration/Raid model that is currently in cell B166 (subject to change if update the spreadsheet).

Generally if you can't viably reach the next breakpoint, then you should reforge back down to the previous breakpoint, which would be 1182

Thanks tang, I plugged my stats in your spread sheet, although I'm wondering about what you mean about looking at the numbers down on row 166, do the numbers on row 6 not diff the numbers on row 166, showing what would change if I made an alteration in that column?

Also, I didn't seem to find the setting in your spreadsheet for 5% spell haste. Does it just assume it?

Yes, my spreadsheet assumes 5% spell haste.

The numbers in row 6 are stat values in Intellect Equivalence Points, obtained by comparing how much SHPS you gain if you add point more point in the stat compared against adding one more point in Intellect. In most cases this should be sufficient to answer any questions you may have. If for example you want to know the value of the 2005 Haste Breakpoint, you can set your Haste Rating to 2004 and see the value of Haste jump up to ~400.

In some cases, the IEP values may not answer your question, so you'll have to look at the raw SHPS values instead.

I would agree with some of the talent and stat adjustments made above, but something even bigger stood out to me after browsing your logs: three-healing! I would really suggest two-healing if one of your fellow healers has a dps spec - its a lot more fun. The reason you don't see any hps numbers close to ranking is there is a finite amount of healing to be done on any fight--with three healers there just isn't enough damage to go around. You can have all the extra ticks in the world but its not going to do much to "up your game" if you and the other healers are just constantly stepping on each others feet.

I know this is still progression content for you, but so long as you aren't wiping to lack of heals you'll have a lot more fun and be able to push yourself to that next level if you drop a healer. Two healing should be easily doable on the first 5-6 bosses. In fact, you may find it makes ultraxion significantly easier because you won't have to deal with the high damage soft enrage phase with that extra dps.

Yeah, Velaeta that's very true. Unfortunately our Disc Healer pretty much only wants to heal, and both our pally healers and myself are all off-specced tank. We have always done ultraxion 2 heals with me DPSing as a cat in full bear spec with nearly all my gear dodge reforged. I've been able to pick some cat specific pieces, but its really difficult to stay at raid level gearing since that would be a third set of gear for me rolling against all our rogues, etc. Its difficult enough for me to win my bear pieces from them Smile

I'm not sure I really want to drop my tank spec, I'm one of our best tanks skill-wise since that's what I did full time since BC till cata and I really enjoy it. Lissandra (I think it was her) just made a blog post about going full cat spec with just the required tanking talents and gearing crit/mastery. I'm wondering how successful that would go when I'm asked to be a tank for the whole raid night.
